Tash & Tom
How did you and your partner meet?
We met a few times through a mutual friend, but officially, we met at a music festival and hit it off.
How did you or partner propose?
Tom had planned a vacation engagement in Helsinki, where Finland would’ve been the 50th country that I (Tash) had visited and the 30th country we’d visited together. Being 2020 of course, things went wrong when we discovered at Heathrow that Finland had shut its borders to the UK and that we couldn’t in fact fly into the country. He quickly made alternative arrangements to go to Rye in East Sussex (also known as the Helsinki of England..) and we went for a romantic walk along the coast and Tom popped the question on top of a sand dune at Camber Sands beach. We spent the afternoon Facetiming our friends and family in Australia and drinking champagne at a gorgeous little pub in Rye.
Why did you choose to have your wedding at Terrara House?
The venue is stunning, surrounded by beautiful nature and in an ideal location, between the hills and the coast. We loved that the venue was able to accommodate our bridal party and family, so that we could extend the celebrations. We also loved that there were lots of different sites around the property. It was a wonderful balance between letting the venue speak for itself and adding our own personal touches to make the day unique.
Did you have a theme for your wedding?
No. However, having been to many weddings, the ones that have always stood out for us nailed three key elements - great music, delicious (and plentiful) food and free flowing booze.
What was your menu on the night?
Canapes
Bruscetta with three toppings
Sugar cured kangaroo with beetroot relish
Eden smoked salmon
Green olive tapenade with roasted cherry tomatoes
BBQ Australian king prawns with chermoula
Cucumber cups with Thai beef salad
Chilli lime ceviche and guacamole on a corn chip
Reception
Sumac crusted salmon with a lemon butter sauce
Roast rosemary and garlic lamb with pomegranate and hazelnut dressing
Couscous salad with heirloom carrots
Pear, rocket and shaved parmesan salad
To drink
A by Arras premium cuvee
Mountadam chardonnay
Petaluma riesling
Chapel Hill the Vinedresser Cabernet sauvignon
Stefano Lubiano Pinot noir
Capital XPA
We also served Pimms during the canapes and instead of a cake, we had wheels of cheese, which were served up as a grazing table later in the night with gin and tonics.
The night before the wedding, we had the Katerina team do woodfired pizzas for our bridal party and family and the morning after, they served up bacon and egg rolls and coffees to everyone staying at the house.
What was your favourite part of your ceremony?
Tom- Doing our vows was lots of fun.
Tash - Having one of our close friends do the ceremony. It made it so much more personal and emotional.
What did you love about your reception?
Tom - Having everyone seated in Chesters at two long communal tables meant that everyone was mingling with each other, as opposed to staying in siloes for the night.
Tash - The band! They got everyone up on the dancefloor and really set the vibe for the evening.
How many people attended your wedding?
68
What was your favourite location in Terrara House & The Estate and why?
We loved the chess garden. It was perfect for serving up canapes and Pimms after the ceremony and we had acoustics playing on the verandah and a few speeches outside during that time too, which was wonderful.
Did you plan a post wedding ‘honeymoon’ celebration and if so, what experience did you plan?
We’re heading to Uganda later this year to go gorilla trekking and head on a safari.
What is your advice for any future couples planning their wedding?
Treat it like a giant party! It takes the pressure right off and makes the planning process so much more fun.
