Sarah & Sam
How did you and your partner meet
Final year of university, through a mutual friend. Then Sam went on to ask for some help on his final capstone assignment and the rest is history.
How did you or partner propose?
Kangaroo Valley, private little shack overlooking the valley with no reception. At sunset (in peak winter!) he asked to join him outside for sunset drinks and popped the question. It was so lovely as there was zero phone reception so we could enjoy the night privately before telling our nearest and dearest !
Why did you choose to have your wedding at Terrara House?
Not only is it so incredibly grand and beautiful, it has the family feel, which was so important to us. Our bridal party and family could all stay together, to celebrate together, for the entire weekend – what a party. Further to that, the veggie patch and paddock to plate style of the menu was important – knowing we were eating hearty, shared meals that were seasonal from the region was a huge drawcard and something the guests commented on afterward. There are just so many more reasons why Terrara but when you arrive at the venue, you just know it is something beyond special.
Did you have a theme for your wedding?
Classic, crisp & elegant
What was your menu on the night?
We cut the cake after the ceremony! Which is unusual but highly recommend and Pork rillettes, pickled onion puree, shaved pear, crackle on sourdough as canapes.
Entrée
Charred octopus, corn puree, smoked paprika, citrus (gf, df)
Heirloom tomatoes with stracciatella, basil oil and pangratatto
Mains
Coffee rubbed brisket, chimichurri (gf)
Hay hot smoked salmon, tartare sauce & all sides,
Dessert
Sticky date pudding, honeycomb, butterscotch, brown sugar cream
Dark chocolate mousse, choc crack, hazelnut crunch, summer berries
What was your favourite part of your ceremony?
Sams sister (our celebrant) organised a the crowd to sing a surprise flashmob to sing ‘Say a Little Prayer’ at the end of the ceremony. Started with our fathers opening the song then all guests singing and standing – it was absolutely incredible !
What did you love about your reception? The speeches always! They just bring so much laughter, emotion and re-live memories of our relationship. All in the backdrop of the beautiful grounds and fairy lights in the marquee, we truly loved the entire night.
How many people attended your wedding? 100
What was your favourite location in Terrara House & The Estate and why? The ceremony location – the Love Garden. Its private, intimate and just so beautiful.
Did you plan a post wedding ‘honeymoon’ celebration and if so, what experience did you plan? COVID wedding planning threw a few spanners of where we could travel, however with dreams of Africa one day, we instead landed on Hamilton Island for a week to rest and relax. Activities out at the Great Barrier Reef and relaxation time on the beach were the ideal way to reflect on the day and recuperate.
What is your advice for any future couples planning their wedding?
There is so much out there to get overwhelmed by; pintrest, magazines, social media, other peoples thoughts. Advice is just stay true to yourself and what you are both wanting for the day. Lastly, plan plan plan …then
