Milly & Connor

Wedding Date: 16th March, 2024

Ceremony Location: Fig Tree

Reception Location: Chesters

How did you and your partner meet?

Without realizing it, we had both spent a significant amount of time in each other’s presence prior to our first actual meeting. We studied the same subjects at university, went to the same parties and had a large number of mutual friends and yet never managed to meet.

Eventually we were introduced by mutual friends who constantly talked us up to each other. They assured us that, aside from both being very tall, we had a lot in common. After hearing so much about one another, a not-so-subtle introduction was arranged at a mulled wine and turtleneck-themed house party in Sydney. This led to our first date, and the rest is history.

How did you or partner propose?

We went away for a long weekend to Port Stephens, and Milly kind of knew something was up—she had helped pick the ring, after all. However, we returned from our romantic weekend without a proposal as Connor had a different plan in mind.

Back at home, in the kitchen of our home where our relationship had developed and grown, Connor dropped to one knee and asked Milly to marry him. Over several years, numerous cheese boards and many glasses of wine, it was the space where we had envisaged our lives together and so was the perfect proposal spot for us. It was such a special moment in our bubble.

What was your favourite part of your ceremony?

We loved our ceremony, especially having all our friends and family gathered under the fig tree near the house. Our favourite part was reading the vows we had written and hearing what we each valued most in each other. It was even more special to discover that, despite writing them separately and keeping them secret until the day, there were numerous parts that intertwined and clearly reflected our shared values in our relationship.

After the ceremony, one of the best moments was greeting everyone as they walked past us and onto the balconies at the front of Terara House. We had a stunning big group photo before cutting the cake and turning around to see everyone’s faces looking back at us. It was an absolutely epic moment!

What did you love about your reception?

It was amazing to have all our favourite people from different walks of life hitting the dancefloor together and having the best time! Even the rain couldn’t dampen the dancing spirit, and the dancefloor was buzzing all night. We will fondly remember the groomsmen turning their jackets inside out to display the fun jacket linings and people strutting around in the wedding high heels that had featured as a prop in one of the speeches. It was an incredible party so full of love.

What is your advice for any future couples planning their wedding?

There really are no rules, so think about how you want to do it. Whether it’s having the groom walked into the ceremony by his parents, doing some speeches during cocktail hour, including all the parents in the 'father-daughter dance,' or serving wedding cake after the ceremony, mix it up to best suit you.

We also really appreciated the team at Terrara House for allowing us to visit the site a few times to walk through all the details of the day and get a feel for the space and gardens. This helped us make the most of the venue and ensured that everything ran smoothly on the day.
